Bloggy Soup Goodness

We just needed to stir everything together to make some “Bloggy Soup Goodness” for your enjoyment.  We wanted to make sure you knew all of the components of the goodness that has recently occurred in a little warm, “Cup O Bloggy Soup” this past week. Yummy!

You do the humpy hump, do the humpy hump Princess!  You rock and so does the Popcorn Park Zoo and all of the wonderful employees and volunteers that make it such a magical place. Go to Princess’ Page.

-Ashlee Simpson Wentz-“BEGGA” as Mon D. from Staten Island says.  Congratulations on your Hall of Shame “WIN”. Tiger's Slaughtered
1/3/2010 9:44:43 AM
Tiger's slaughtered and live animals imported illegally, mostly to the US

Wow, can you imagine the facade of a Tiger & Bear Zoo in China...the animals perform, then get butchered for illegal trade?

We were speachless after reading about this! The full details are  in Nat Geo Magazine...Jan 2010.  Ugh!

I guess this story just really gets us sick after meeting the wonderful tigers that were rescued at the Popcorn Park Zoo and featured in http://www.tppc.tv/17.php

We really try not to dwell on negativity, but this is just outrageous.  The article states that most of the illegally imported live animals are imported to the United States! What the heck is going on?

There is lot's more info on the Nat Geo site..click the link to see...

PICTURES: Tigers Butchered for Trade at "Zoos" in China?

Tigers in China on TPPC.tv Blog

December 29, 2009--
Tourists feed tigers at the Xiongsen Bear and Tiger Park, a private zoo in Guillin, China, in an undated photograph.

Many such tourist attractions secretly operate as fronts for illegal tiger farming, butchering captive tigers for their parts, National Geographic magazine reports in the January 2010 story "Asia's Wildlife Trade."

On the eve of 2010--the Year of the Tiger in Chinese astrology--the big cats remain highly coveted. A dead adult male can sell for U.S. $10,000 or more on the black market. Tiger bones and penises are often used in traditional medicines, and some restaurants serve tiger meat, including, a recent DNA test suggests, the restaurant at Xiongsen Bear and Tiger Park, according to the National Geographic magazine article. The Xiongsen Bear and Tiger Park in Guillin, China, puts on a circus-style performance in an undated photograph. Some of the park's 1,300 tigers and 400 bears perform in the daily shows.

The park is lobbying to ease regulations on China's 16-year-old ban in trading tiger parts--which would be to their benefit. Xiongsen owns a nearby distillery that produces tiger-bone wine, called the chicken soup of Chinese medicine, according to National Geographic magazine.

(See tiger pictures.)

But conservationists fear that any form of legal tiger trade would further endanger the fewer than 4,000 tigers that still roam free, the magazine reported. For instance, just as legalizing ivory sales has not helped to slow illegal poaching of elephants, legalizing tiger products may only increase demand for tiger parts--both wild and farmed, conservationists say.

Wildlife trafficking has thrived thanks to a loophole in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), which allows the trade of captive animals, experts say. Many smugglers have established fake breeding facilities, where poached wild animals and plants are captive bred, according to the January 2010 National Geographic magazine article

More than 13 million live animals from protected species were legally exported from Southeast Asia between 2000 and 2007, most of them going to the United States. However legal trade dwarfs the profitable illicit market that operates in its shadow, according to the January 2010 National Geographic magazine article.

Have a Heart…steal the jewelry, but leave the puppy?!

Puppy Stolen, Story On TPPC.tv

Can you believe criminals ransacked and burglarized a house in Baltimore, MD, then had the brass to take the puppy too! Two schools of thought on this… Hopefully (odd choice of words but stay with us,)   they took the puppy and gave it to someone.  The alternate of taking the pup and torturing it or killing it for kicks is gut wrenching.

Sadly, this family with 6 children between the ages of 3-12, spent Christmas Eve putting up fliers trying to find their stolen puppy.  UGH!  Now, some pundits may say the shelters are overcrowded, you can get another puppy.  But, we all know that it’s not the same.  This family has not only been violated, but a member of their family has been stolen.

Our good thoughts and positive vibes are going out to this family for a happy resolution and reunion.

Below is the referenced article from www.peoplepets.com regarding a residential break in Baltimore.

Full story below:

When Keith Alioto returned to his Baltimore home last Wednesday night, he found it had been ransacked and burglarized— and that his 4-month-old puppy Max, a 6-lb. Dachshund and German shepherd mix, was missing.

"I had come home first at 5:30 p.m. to play with Max and run him around the yard before I went out for dinner an hour later while my wife and six kids spent the evening at her mother’s house a few miles away," Alioto, 41, tells PEOPLEPets.com. "I left the house empty for four hours, and when I got back around 10:30 p.m., I saw we were robbed and our little Max was gone."

Alioto, the IT director at a Baltimore stem-cell research company, noticed many items missing: a television, two computers, Christmas gifts, a PlayStation, video games and some small electronics around his work desk. And the dining room window was wide open.

"I noticed on the couch the cushion was up, so I thought Max had jumped over it," Alioto continues. "So I looked under the couch where Max goes when we vacuum. He wasn’t there. So I looked everywhere for him, upstairs, in the back, you name it. Outside, I saw there was snow, but no dog tracks in it."

Frantic, Alioto called friends, neighbors and the Baltimore police to report the incident. He had his family spend the night at his mother-in-law’s house so he could clean up the mess and continue searching for Max.

"On Christmas Eve, my older children (the kids range from ages 3 to 12) and I made flyers and put them up at vets' offices, grocery stores and other posts around the area," Alioto tells PEOPLEPets.com. "I called the three TV stations, and they all did stories. I even put Max and his photo up on
Craigslist. So far we have had nothing but false alarms and no luck even finding the thieves."

Max, a quiet and affectionate puppy, who likes to sit on the couch with his head on Alioto's and the kids’ shoulders, is black with a brown and white chest and paws. He was not wearing a collar and rarely barks.

"We were not even looking for a pet when a friend’s dog had babies and gave us Max after we picked him out of the crowd in November," he says. "We are all very upset and want him back. We will offer a reward for his return."

Geico Gecko, How 'bout Sally?
12/22/2009 3:35:37 PM

Every time a Geico commercial with the Gecko comes on, we laugh.  So in a tribute to the Family: Gekkonidae we present some fun Gecko facts.   Some of us thought the good folks at Geico might want to consider getting the cute little guy a girl friend.  So we looked up some pictures of Geckos on the internet and we found this cutie.

 Sally pre-makeover on TPPC.tv

But you know, if you are going to go out with a big TV star, Sally, (yes, her name is Sally), you better have a glamorous makeover so you can be super stylish! Please note: her adhesive toe pads might not be conducive to some stylish black boots.  She can change her body color to range from brown to striking orange, red, green, or yellow!  Imagine the wardrobe and hair color options!

Fabulous! You go with your big, bad Gecko-ish self!  Good luck on your date and fill us in on the details!

More about the Gecko:

CRESTED GECKO

Rhacodactylus ciliatus

Origin: New Caledonia

Family: Gekkonidae

A medium sized arboreal lizard from New Caledonia. Crested Geckos have a broad triangular shaped head with crests running from the upper eye rim down to the shoulder area. A prehensile tail with a flattened tip , that is used to cling to vertical surfaces along with it's adhesive toe pads makes these lizards excellent climbers.

Only having entered into the UK hobby in the last few years. They are fast gaining popularity due to their docile nature, ease of care & incredible personalities. Crested geckos will give Leopard Geckos a run for there money in both the popularity stakes and the diverse range of colours and patterns that are showing up in captive bred specimens. Already available in several colour and pattern morphs, all cresties have the ability to change colour. This firing up as it is known can be very dramatic, what might look like a drab brown gecko one minute can change into the most striking orange, red, green, or even yellow specimen the next.

Did I mention they have the most incredible personalities. With gentle handling and encouragement they can be coaxed to feed from your hand. Once trust is achieved they will even come to you when you open the vivarium door, jump onto your chest or arm and just sit there looking at you with that clownish face there famous for, and those big round eyes surrounded by " eye lashes " any women would just die for.

Being a nocturnal lizard, they will spend most of the day curled up within the leafs of plants. Fig trees seem to be there favorite and live specimens of these will do well in the vivarium, alternatively there are plenty of silk and plastic plants available form either your local reptile store or garden center that will equally serve the purpose. Being an arboreal species they require a tall vivarium with plenty of vertical climbing surfaces such as bamboo canes. Substrate can be newspaper for ease of cleaning or for a more natural and appealing look, peat or bark chipping's. A daytime temperature of between 72-80 F (22-27 C) and a night time drop to 65-75 F (18-24 C) can be achieved by the use of a well guarded ceramic heater wired to a good thermostat.

The beauty of keeping nocturnal species is that there active when your home from work, school, or the pub. Install a guarded red bulb in the viv and you can watch their antics as they jump from cane to cane. Oh yes, they talk too, well not exactly talk but they have quiet a vocal range of noises, squeaks, clicks, grunts sometimes sounding like little chickens clucking about. Not recommended for keeping in your bedroom if your a light sleeper.

Another plus for this species is they can be raised on a non livefood diet. Although a lot more thought must go into there diet, for it to be nutritious enough. A commercially packaged complete dry diet is available now that you mix up with water and feed to your cresties three to four times a week.

If your not adverse to the stray cricket sharing your home then, your crestie will love these fed to it once or twice a week. Twice a week they will readily eat pureed fruit, such as bananas, peaches & pears, or commercially prepared fruit baby food that has been laced with supplements. Don't forget to dust your crickets with multi vits just prior to feeding.

Fresh water should be available at all times in a shallow bowl, spraying the vivarium nightly is a good routine to get into not only does it serve to higher the humidity that in turn helps with sloughing but also encourages your cresties to drink from the leaves of the plants or sides of the vivarium.

Housed singularly or in small groups of one male to two or three females, these geckos make excellent pets for beginners, with them being relatively new to the hobby the potential to cultivate new morphs makes them appealing to the experienced keeper as well.

Angels Among Us
12/21/2009 5:02:42 PM

So, this little furry friend grew some “wing-shaped” appendages.  Maybe "Someone" is just trying to remind us that angels are all around us…

Angel Cat on TPPC.tvAlpha /Landov original picture without the fantastic angel artwork.

May you recognize an "Angel" in your world today!

When Cats Fly? Furry Feline Grows Wings!

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a … cat? A kitty in Chongqing, China, is getting some extra-special attention these days: The furry feline has developed wings! Though born looking completely normal, once the cat hit the age of 1, he began growing wing-shaped appendages on either side of his spine, the U.K.'s

Daily Mail reports. While some think the bony limbs may be a mutation of some kind – or even a Siamese twin growing inside the cat – others speculate it's a genetic change perhaps caused by chemicals ingested by the kitty's mother while she was pregnant.

According to the cat's owners, he doesn't seem to mind his new wings – and he’s loving the attention he's received because of them!

Pawty!

A Post From Lookie Lou, Chachala and Philomena:

Hello everyone! Thought we would help out by typing a blog post during this busy holiday season...

So, I just poured a big bowl o’egg nog for me and the girls while the Paw-rents are out shopping. The Pawrents were talking about squeaky toys and chewy yum yums when they left and they left us home so I’m thinkin’ they went to get us some presents! Woofy Woo!

Geee…egg nog is tasty stuff, isn’t it? Pleeeeease don’t tell them that we were in the fridge and that we totally understand what they say. It could potentially ruin a “good thing” for pets all around the world.

Wow this eggnog is deeee-lish! “Cha…stop slurping it all up!” Hold on, gotta pour another bowl. I don’t know why we don’t get this stuff more often. It’s goooooood!

So, I asked…”Hey Phil, save some! Cha! Stop diving off the back of the couch into a pile of cushions.” Philomena just put on our I-Pawd party mix. I love the Alley Cat and Chicken dance. Woofy woo, that’s fun.

OH NO! The garage door just went up! Code Red, Red Alert, I repeat, Code Red, Red Alert! …here come Mommy and Poppy Peep! Cha, wash out the bowl, Phil, turn off the music, everyone return to fake nap positions stat, dive, dive, dive!

Heard a few minutes later…
“Honey, do you want some egg nog?”

May your holidays be Merry & Bright! Lookie Lou and the Crew!

A Changed Path

A Changed Path

Some of us have those moments that change who we are to the core.

The life changing event may not be a major event, such as 9/11. The event may be something which may be considered by some, to be insignificant. As pet owners, we know the passing of a pet is never insignificant. It is a major event that warrants us to go through the grieving process the same as the passing of any other member of the family.

In the case of Luke Robinson, (www.2dogs2000miles.org) ,the passing of his dog Malcolm, his spiritual soul mate, prompted major change in his life. Prior to Malcolm’s passing, Luke often worked 90 hour weeks and told us, “You wouldn’t have liked me very much 5 years ago.”

Malcolm was stricken with cancer and Luke promised to find out why and to raise awareness about canine cancer. Luke is now walking from Austin to Boston with his boys, Hudson and Murphy, to accomplish this and he is on the down slope of his journey. Hudson and Murphy are two wooly adorable giant yellow Newfy looking fur babies.

When we met him on Saturday, it was cold, rainy and gray. It didn’t stop many “fans” from turning out at the “Bear’s Cache for Canine Cancer Fundraiser” just to shake Luke’s hand and say “Thank you for what you are doing.”    So many sad stories were shared about cancer taking companion animals way to early.   It was a very touching day, one that Joe and I will not soon forget.

Tim and Darlene are the wonderful folks who organized the event in their dog, “Bear’s” memory. Kudos to them for taking a negative event and turned it into something positive. Everyone attending the event enjoyed “Geocaching” (www.geocaching.com ) their families and pets.

So that’s the scoop behind the most recent episode of TPPC.tv. We hope you are as inspired by Episode 19 ( www.tppc.tv  ) as we are.

“What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?”
-Vincent Van Gough

Within the next few weeks we will be sharing some amazing stories with you.

The stories of Luke, Hudson and Murphy, Tails of Hope and Molly the Pony are true and incredible. They are stories of hope, awareness and giving. Donating funds and time, service to others, bringing smiles of wonderment and stepping outside of yourself is what this holiday season especially this year, means to the Crew here at TPPC.tv. For we feel so very lucky to have forged working relationships and friendships with so many. We give back to our community in many ways including free web pages for qualified charities, publicity and donations.

It is with a heavy heart that we look around today and see so many of our pack members unemployed, facing adversity and dealing with all sorts of personal challenges. We try to support everyone in the best way we can, as true friends do. As without friendship, life is a bit grey. Unexpectedly, we find ourselves attached through Twitter, Facebook, TPPC.tv Community and other sites. Sometimes we are more engaged with our cyber-friends then with our “digitally challenged” friends, as we find those things that we truly have in common with others and we get daily updates from our cyber-friends.

“I find hope in the darkest of days and focus on the brightest. I do not judge the universe.”
-Dali Lama

As we focus on the brighter days ahead, we will continue to bring you amazing stories from around the world. We really can change the world, even if we just touch one heart, one person, one animal in need. Don’t get overwhelmed. As we have said from the inception of TPPC.tv…Working together we can change the world… One task, one act of kindness, one soul at a time!

When you need a little smile over the next few weeks, check back here. And please check out our coupons page. You can get great deals and shopping from the links on this page helps us support animal related charities. http://www.TPPC.tv/petcoupons.php

'TWAS THE NIGHT OF THANKSGIVING,
BUT I JUST COULDN'T SLEEP.
I TRIED COUNTING BACKWARDS,
I TRIED COUNTING SHEEP.

THE LEFTOVERS BECKONED -
THE DARK MEAT AND WHITE,
BUT I FOUGHT THE TEMPTATION
WITH ALL OF MY MIGHT.

TOSSING AND TURNING WITH ANTICIPATION,
THE THOUGHT OF A SNACK BECAME INFATUATION.
SO, I RACED TO THE KITCHEN, FLUNG OPEN THE DOOR,
AND GAZED AT THE FRIDGE, FULL OF GOODIES GALORE.
GOBBLED UP TURKEY AND BUTTERED POTATOES,
PICKLES AND CARROTS, BEANS AND TOMATOES.

I FELT MYSELF SWELLING SO PLUMP AND SO ROUND,
'TIL ALL OF A SUDDEN, I ROSE OFF THE GROUND.
I CRASHED THROUGH THE CEILING, FLOATING INTO THE SKY,
WITH A MOUTHFUL OF PUDDING AND A HANDFUL OF PIE.
BUT, I MANAGED TO YELL AS I SOARED PAST THE TREES.....
HAPPY EATING TO ALL - PASS THE CRANBERRIES, PLEASE.

MAY YOUR STUFFING BE TASTY,
MAY YOUR TURKEY BE PLUMP.
MAY YOUR POTATOES 'N GRAVY HAVE NARY A LUMP.
MAY YOUR YAMS BE DELICIOUS.
MAY YOUR PIES TAKE THE PRIZE,
MAY YOUR THANKSGIVING DINNER STAY OFF OF YOUR THIGHS!!

The Soundtrack
11/20/2009 3:07:02 PM
The Soundtrack

We have all had songs, commercials and other various random occurrences stuck in our head from time to time. I was singing the theme to the “Road Runner” Cartoon to Philomena this morning…ugh, got that one stuck in my head now. Phil is a little Road Runner…Beep, Beep!

So this song now replace the soundtrack from Episode 18, Zombies. Joe does a great job at producing the shows and I couldn’t stop laughing at the sound bite that went like this:

I called my mom and I said,"Guess what," and she said "What" and I said…

"I LOVE BEING A MONSTER! GRRRR”

Of course the adorable picture of the Chihuahua in a Mini Mouse costume with lips slightly parted into a “GRRRR”! that popped up on the screen just made it this sound bite really stick in my head.

So “at the grind”, I got to thinkin’. What animal would I love to be if I wasn’t me.   Then I looked up and saw this picture on my calendar.
 A Grizzly at TPPC.tv

Yes! That’s it! Salmon, honey, berries, playing in the water and most importantly sleeping through the winter. I’m sure some of us are so busy we wouldn’t mind catching up a bit on our sleep. Not that we want to miss out on any festivities etc., just that the prospect of crawling into a dark den on a rainy day seems pretty good.

OH, WAIT!  That’s what our pets do every day while we toil to earn clams to buy them pretty things and kibble. Crud…note to self, put “spoiled dog” or “dominant grizzly bear” on the list for the next trip to the planet.
Nutrish Taste Test with Chachala and Philomena
11/11/2009 4:45:34 PM

Nutrish Taste Test with the World’s Most Honest Chihuahua.

Not to say other Chihuahuas are dishonest….

The wonderful people at Nutrish offered us some samples of Rachael Ray’s new dog food, Nutrish. Now, you don’t have to be a fan of her show to appreciate the fact that a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this product goes to her dog rescue charity. OK, now we are really fans of Rachael Ray.

With that said, it was time to do the test. You know from our past shows it is possible that Cha will reject chow, unlike Phil, who only rejects lettuce. Note to self…”No salad for Phil”.

The food comes in 2 flavors, Chicken and Beef.

The nice thing is it is small enough for tiny dogs to chew with ease which we really appreciated.

So both dogs tested both flavors AFTER they ate their regular dinner. ( Aren’t we extra tough testers?) In addition, the dinner leftovers were on the counter, which often times add to the potential rejection of dog foods in hopes of obtaining people foods!

Here we go:

Cha  & Phil both loved it.  (Yes, I have pictures which I continue to try to upload and can't and I have a headache and it's late, but I will keep trying.)

WOW! They both loved both flavors and wanted more!

They think its YUM-O!

Beyond the Taste:

We aren’t experts in dog nutrition, so you will need to decide if this product will work for your pooch. Here is what Rachael says on her site…

“My dog Isaboo loves how good these foods taste. Lucky for me, she has no idea just how good they really are for her. They’ve got Omega Fatty Acids with a dash of EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) to keep her skin and coat shiny and healthy. A healthy fiber blend including oatmeal makes Nutrish easy for her to digest. Calcium, which helps to keep Isaboo’s bones strong and her teeth healthy. For her immune system, there are antioxidant nutrients like vitamin E and selenium. And high quality proteins like real beef or chicken help support healthy organs and lean muscle mass.”

Beyond Rachel’s Sales Pitch:

A portion of the proceeds of the sale of this product goes to ‘Rachel’s Rescue” to help pets. You can find more information on her site, http://www.rachelray.com

And why not try a free sample...after all, it's Woofy Woo Approved!:

Chachala, the Chihuahua, Needs A Vote!
11/3/2009 4:29:00 PM
Chachala, the Chihuahua, Needs s A Vote.

Here in NJ, the gubernatorial position is at stake with a very close race for governor. Currently the polls are showing less than a 2% spread between Corzine, the incumbent and Christie, the republican candidate. By the time you read this, the election will probably be over…but that’s not the point.

The point is, we would like Chachala to give each candidate a “read”. The advertising on television slings mud. People say the ads  are not true. Blah, Blah, Blah! All we need to do is let Cha be the judge of character. As you may have read in previous posts, she really is the quintessential honest judge of character.

It will be simple. If she doesn’t like you, she will climb on our heads. That’s right. She becomes a fashion accessory. A Chia-hat., not to be confused with a Chia- pet.

Chia Pet growing instructions   A Chia Head, part of the Chia family.

A chihuahua is not a hat…a  A picture of a Chihuahua on a guy's head...wow...we thought Cha was the only one who did this....found this with a google search.

If she likes you, she will sniff you…just a little. You will get a Chi-sniff. Not to be confused with handkerchief. You cannot use a handkerchief

Handkerchief  (Does anyone use these anymore?)

for a Chi-sniff. Unless it’s a Cha sniff and runny nose. Then just give her a quarter of a baby asprin and wrap her in a warm blanket.

I’m sure the days of candidates kissing babies are long gone. But how about a crazy couple with a Chihuahua running after a candidate?
National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week
11/2/2009 4:46:39 PM
In honor of National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week…
Cut down your heating bill this winter, adopt a furry friend.

Snuggies are so 10 minutes ago. (OK, not really.  We want Snuggies and so do the dogs!)

http://www.askmelissa.com/images/blog/uploads/dog-snuggie.jpg

As an alternative, if you are cold just adopt a furry friend.  Cha and Phil make great foot warmers, leg warmers, neck warmers, hand warmers, heart and soul warmers.

We know so many of you do so much to help get our furry friends adopted.  It’s so hard now to raise awareness with adoption.  So many people want to purchase breed specific puppies that we wonder how all of these wonderful pets, now surrendered due to the economy will survive.  I really think the people going to purchase pets don’t realize that there are breed specific rescue groups out there as well, for those who want to go that route.

So, in honor of National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, we appreciate all of the hard work all of the shelter workers and volunteers do everyday, 24/7/365.  A big woofy woo shout out to all of you.

Gosh darn you Jason Alexander and this lovely, kind ASPCA worker woman!  As if the donations we already send to the ASPCA, SPCA and local shelters are not enough, now you MAKE US WANT to send $18 dollars a month to you  in addition to what we send now, so that you can continue your good work.

This animal loving ASPCA worker woman pictured below…

The Lovely ASPCA Woman     People doing great things at the ASPCA

She told us she has made it her life’s work to rescue animals.  (sniff…god bless her).  She helped to rescue a little abused doggy, (sniff, sniff, please pass the tissues) and will now bring his owner to justice…(here, take some money).  The dog was neglected. His nails were growing back into his paws. (OMG, take some more money.) He had infected eyes. Oh and a giant stab wound and was left for dead. (SOB, I can’t take these commercials.)

Jason Alexander continues to narrate.  We continue to get sick to our stomachs.  These commercials are just heart wrenching and extremely effective for soliciting donations.  As many organizations continue to battle it out for contributions in a tough economy, we can only assume that the techniques for soliciting donation dollars will continue to get more aggressive.

Which by our accounts is OK if  the ultimate outcome of the commercial raises awareness or toughens the laws for abusers.  Let’s just hope that these organizations funded by real people donating their hard earned dollars, can continue to function and do the good work they do 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  Every penny counts for all involved now.

Feel free to continue to spread the word for your organization, fundraiser, adoptions etc. in our community at http://www.tppctv.ning.com.  From time to time, we will spotlight different organizations and the good work you are doing.
Media in the World

Our view of Woofy Media in the World continues to change…

Until we start communicating telepathically like our animal friends do, we will continually exploring the way in which we receive our information. (As an aside, anyone who owns two pets will probably attest to the telepathic communication between the two.)

From Kindle’s to touch screen computers it seems, every day brings new methodology. In a recent survey at the Blogworld and New Media Expo in Las Vegas, almost everyone in the audience felt that newspapers will be “extinct” in ten years. I’m sure we can continue to “pro and con” the potential death of newspapers for some time, i.e. drinking a cup of Sunday morning coffee while leisurely flipping through the paper and clipping coupons is becoming a thing of the past. You can read the news online and print out your coupons. I don’t think we will miss the ink smudges on our hands though.

Even television news programs are panicking at the thought of change as they too are affected with the way news is delivered. Readily available electronic media such as Facebook, YouTube and Twitter have changed the speed at which we receive information. We now receive information in hyper-speed time frames. Sometimes we receive information quicker than we can check websites. Don Lemon, CNN anchor, appeared as a panel member during the Blogworld Expo. Quite frankly, his view of media was archaic in our opinion.

Don Lemon stated that people should send information to him for fact checking prior to it being broadcast. They have eight or nine people fact checking a story prior to air. He said that “People” just don’t have the integrity to report information truthfully. So what does that mean? Basically bloggers and vloggers don’t have the integrity to report “Real News”. Hmmmm, interesting, isn’t it? I wonder if the people who fact checked the Balloon Boy story which CNN covered for hours and hours as breaking news are still employed? Just wondering…

Now, you know Joe and I love to talk to pet loving peeps all over the world. You have shared with the world stories that are heart felt, genuine and compassionate. Some of the stories are out of the realm of what TPPC.tv would cover as a pet related channel. So you have motivated us to venture into new waters, continuing to explore the realm of possibilities for real people, wanting to make a difference.

We have created a new network, Real People Network News.tv.    The News you report that we talk about as “Real People”, heart to heart in a talk show format.  You can blog on our site and upload pictures or embed stories from YouTube or upload short clips to RPNN.tv. You don’t need to be a professional journalist, just be passionate on what you are reporting about. Report the facts and both sides of the story, but don’t be afraid to add your opinion. We might have you appear as a guest on our show as well.

We are working on getting the formal website up and running, but in the meantime, please join our community at http://www.rpnntv.ning.com and feel free to share any information and stories you wish.

We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for all the support you have shown over the past year. We look forward to sharing the ‘New Media World” with you as we venture into uncharted territory.
What Woofs in Vegas? We all do!

So Lookie Lou and the crew boarded the plane EARLY this morning and headed out to Las Vegas, home of the Blog World and New Media Conference.   This is an important conference because as you have experienced, there are no rules in new media and we all collectively are making history. Congratulations to you all!  What an exciting time as TV and computers grow into one.  Our show, is what you might call Web TV, free on demand. Until the Super Bowl ads last year for Hulu, a lot of people were using it but unfamiliar with the term Web TV.

In addition, many of us are part of each others lives as we blog and share pictures.  Something we only could have imagined 15 years ago. And Tweeting on Twitter and Facebook pages have only brought the world to a closer yet faster pace in a way. Important information can no longer be suppressed as we learn first hand what goes on in the world from the people who are experiencing it. Our pet loving community is able to get the word out when help is needed or expose bad people harming animals faster than ever.

If you would like, we will keep you posted on some tech info as we experience this week with the people who are creating the vision for what tomorrow's New Media will look like.

On a side note, as you may have read in our comments or on Twitter, there was a little brown birdie on the plane this morning that we helped safely remove. Poppie peep got a blanket and since he is so tall, he was able to block off our little friend so he would find the exit.  The flight attendant, very nice woman but obviously not a pet peep screamed like she was being attacked by Mothra. Oh I can't even describe her hair standing straight out, her eyes crossing and her hands waving and she was running in place like she was in  the movie, "The Birds".  I'm still kind of giggling. I know it's not right to giggle, I'm just sayin' that look was priceless...

We never thought we would have "virtually" met so many wonderful fur friends from all over the world.  Thank you all for sharing your lives with our Social Petwork loving Paw Pals. Woofy Woo!

Snots the cat and Ernie the Bird.

TPPC.tv Kicks Off Tribute Pages

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.  ~Bible, John 15:13

This is a picture of “Snots the cat” .  That’s right, “Snots”.  We received this adorable picture from Joe’s long time friend, Mike.  Mike wrote: “Snots, so named because he has a chronic sinus condition and is always sneezing.  He is wrapped in a towel so my wife can give him medication.  Our African Grey Parrot, Ernie, who thinks he is a cat, took the opportunity to taunt Snots while he was wrapped up.”  They both look like they are smiling.

Mike and Joe are both retired firefighters.   The common bond they share as such is a silent cacophony of the preverbal “still waters running deep”.  I have seen Joe share this bond with many of his friends that spent years “on the job”.    Interestingly enough, unspoken words are indication enough of the hell so many of these folks have been through.

We have been planning tribute pages for some time and with the receipt of the picture of Snots, we decided now is the perfect time.  Therefore, in appreciation of those who selflessly give day after day, we would like to pay tribute to those who give so much to make the world a better, safer place for us all.

We are in the process of building special tribute pages of pets belonging to Emergency Services members, Police, Fire, EMS, Search & Rescue and Military families.  If you would like to include your pet and person’s picture, please email:

Your favorite jpeg file of the individual and pet you would like to honor.
Please include the pet and the person’s name and state/province and country of residence
Branch of Membership, i.e. Las Vegas Fire  Rescue, years of service, active, retired or in memory of,
If you wish, please include a paragraph or a few sentences of tribute.

Please send to info@tppc.tv

We are looking forward to this long term project as we will continue to add information as we receive it.  Thanks everyone for including the people and pets of TPPC.tv in your lives. We appreciate each and every one of you.

Halloween Reflections

Halloween Reflections

Yes, it is time to pick pumpkins, make caramel apples (yummy) and choose your Halloween costumes.  As each year goes by, Halloween décor seems to get more grand and sophisticated.  Animatronics, motion sensitive items, holographic, battery operated scary stuff abounds in both drug stores and party stores.  If you love Halloween like many of us do, every year is like a new slate of cool decorations to use throughout your house and lawn.

With that said, we think back and reminisce about Halloween decorations we had as children.  We had a cardboard jointed witch for the front door and a pumpkin…which I painted a face on every year.  I was not about to cut into a perfectly good pumpkin and only get 2 days of fun out of the rotted gloopy mess.  Truth be told, I think I just didn’t like sticking my hand into the cold, stringy, slimy pumpkin but, so I digress.

Now, that witch on our front door was plenty scary to me as a child.  The fact that we could change her poses only made her more real in my mind.  I clearly remember green and black striped stockings on that thing.  We had it for years.  Thinking back, the witch freaked me out because she reminded me of the witch in the movie “The Wizard of Oz”.  That part where the house lands on her and her feet curl up under the house still sends chills down my spine.  My, how times change.

As the decorating frenzy expands, one thing we noticed that has shrunk proportionately is the size of the treat that children receive.  Remember we used to get a regular size candy bar which was twice the size of a regular bar now?  When you Trick-or-Treated, you had a candy stash that lasted well into the December holiday season.  Now kids are doing miles for the equivalent of one house worth of candy.  There really is nothing fun about “fun size”.

So as we get closer to the big day, please stay safe, keep the candy away from your pets and have a scary good time.

We would love to hear about your Halloween! Please share your memories old and recent! Funny, scary, prizes won, favorite costume, favorite candy etc.

Don’t forget to send your favorite pet costume picture into our contest http://www.tppc.tv/Contest.php and check out our new community, our “Social Petwork” at http://www.tppc.tv/community.php

Share the Squeaky Toy

Share the Squeaky Toy

Often times we find ourselves in a position to get tested.  Will we do the right thing?  We understand that everything is relative.  We also understand that testing is a part of everyday life.

The well intended individual might be doing what they think is right, but is it in fact altruistic in nature?

We have seen several examples of this in the past few days.  Just today, someone told me, “You did a fantastic job”.  I could only reply with, “It was a team effort”.  That is honest, the team made it happen, not just me.

Every person is a gear in the machine of life.  Things work best when we work together, cohesively with a common vision.  Paying homage to all involved only yields greater results next time.

Think about this as you get tested in life.  Do you share the squeaky toy will all of the dogs in the pack?
